Junior Year Checklist

  • SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER:  Meet with your counselor at the beginning of the school year to make sure you are taking the classes you need for graduation.
  • Discuss career and educational plans with your school counselor and your parents(s).
  • Keep a college resource file.
  • Attend college fairs and meet with college representatives that visit your school.
  • Look at scholarship and financial aid options.
  • OCTOBER:  Take the PSAT if you did not take it in 10th grade.
  • Attend Financial Aid Night at Coudersport High School.  ANY  student considering any type of post-secondary education should attend with their parent(s).
  • MARCH:  Register for the SAT I and SAT II tests if the schools you are considering require the SAT tests.  Also register for the ACT.  It is a good idea to take these during your Junior year.  If necessary, you can retake them as a senior.
  • APRIL-NEXT FALL:  Begin school visitations while schools are still in session and continue through the summer and next fall.  Remember to pick up a college visit form from Student Services and return it 10 days before your visit if you are going to miss school.
  • APRIL:  Attend Penn-York College Night at St. Bonaventure.
  • Job shadow someone in your field of interest.  (See Student Services for the forms.)
  • MAY-JUNE:  If you have SAT IIs to take, you can take them now.
  • JUNE-SEPTEMBER:  Send for applications.
  • Plan your course of study for your senior year.  Pay close attention to any specific entrance requirement for your desired major.
  • Request applications in the Spring from schools you are interested in by mail or the Internet.
